Who is Chetan Bhagat?
Chetan Prakash Bhagat is an Indian author and columnist. Born on 22nd April 1974 in Delhi. Firstly he pursued B.tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad. Second he started his career as an investment banker. Thirdly he realised his interest area and became an author. The genre of his books is romance, realistic fiction and non-fiction. Also wrote nine novels and three non-fiction books. Chatan’s five books have been adapted into Bollywood films. His first novel was published in 2004. Bhagat won the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay for his Kai Po Che! at the 59th Filmfare Awards in 2014.

1. One Night @ the Call Center:
This novel was first published in 2005. Meanwhile the story revolves around employees working at the Connexions call centre in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. It is a story of one night during which all of the leading characters ignore some aspect of themselves or their lives they would like to change. I’m addition to that the story takes an interesting turn when they get a call from God, who speaks modern English and talks to all of them. The theme of this novel involves the uncertainties and insecurities of the rising Indian middle class, including questions about career, marriage, family disputes in a changing India. Also the relationship of the young Indian middle class to both executives and ordinary clients whom they serve in the United States. This novel was adapted for a film ‘Hello’ in 2008.
2. Five Point Someone:
Five Point Someone was Chetan Bhagat’s first novel published in 2004. The book sold more than a million copies worldwide. It is a story which revolves around the lives of three friends whose joy was getting admission in India’s best engineering college. The Bollywood movie ‘3 idiots’ is based on the story of this novel which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani. In conclusion, this book was also adapted into a play by the theatre company “Evam.” The ‘Five Points Someone’ won Indo-America Society’s Society Young Achiever’s Award (2004) and The Publisher’s Recognition Award (2005).
3. 2 States:
2 states commonly known as ‘The Story of my Life’ was first published in 2009. It is a story of a couple coming from two different states. How they fall for each other and how they face hardships in convincing their parents for their marriage? Chetan Bhagat wrote this novel after quitting his job as an investment banker and this book was his fourth novel as a writer. As a result, novel was turned into a movie with the same name ‘2 States’ and was released in 18th April 2014.
4. The 3 Mistakes Of My Life:
This was the third novel written by Chetan Bhagat and was first published in 2008. However this was also the third best-seller novel of Chetan Bhagat. For instance, the novel revolves around the story of three friends and is based in the city of Ahmadabad in western India. It was also adapted for movie ‘Kai Po Che’ which was released in February 2013. ‘Kai Po Che’ was directed by Abhishek Kapoor starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh & Rajkumar Rao. This book was also published in the Guajarati language. Also, this book was translated in the Tamil language.
5. Half girlfriend:
This was Chetan Bhagat’s sixth novel and was published in 2014. It is a story of a Bihari boy who falls in love with a rich girl. The story revolves around his struggle to get the love of his life. This book set in rural Bihar, New Delhi, Patna, and New York. This story was adapted in a Bollywood film with the same name which was directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Chetan Bhagat. Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor were seen as the lead in roles. The movie released on 19th May 2017.
