The launching of the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” program was by our honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. Its implementation was on 22 January 2015, in Panipat. The main motive of this scheme is to save the girl child.

In our country, most people think that the girl is a burden on parents. So when a girl is born in the family, nobody feels happy. Many negative ideas come into the mind of the girl’s parents. This scheme is applied to safeguard the girl child. The scheme encourages people to change their thoughts about girl children. It is to imprint on the minds that girl children are not a burden on the family but a blessing, instead.

The Past – Before Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

In the old days, girls were preoccupied with household works. They had no right to move freely. Homes were as confinements to the girls. Nobody asked them whatever their needs were.

On the other hand, if a girl was born, the old woman, as well as other women of the society began to curse the child or her mother. The mother of the new-born girl was subject to torture. Such maltreatment was normal to women or girls, by the society or the family. But we cannot deny that in those days, a few women were famous in every kind of field, for example, Savitri, Draupadi, the mythological figures, and the historical field, Rajasthan, Chand Bibi, Gurgavati, Rani Padmavati, bear no exception.

The Present – After Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

Now the time has been changed.

It needs some re-correction. Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a part of the schemes from the government of India. This scheme or program began with the collaboration of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resources Development, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The government aims to change the social conduct of the people towards the girl child in India and raises the standard in society.

The main aim of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is to protect the girl from the evil of society such as gender bias, abortions, and give her proper education all over the country. According to this scheme, 100 districts have been chosen to take the necessary action to finish.

These are the following objectives in the scheme for the welfare of a girl child:

  1. Preventing the gendered welfare of a girl child.
  2. Ensuring the survival and protection of the girl child as an infant.
  3. Ensuring education and participation of girl child, case of child sex, reported by UNICEF in 2012 that India got 41 ranks among 195 countries.

We cannot deny, that in India every girl has to face the discrimination in several fields such as health, safety, fundamental rights, education, nutrition, etc. to remove these things and to improve the status of girl child in the society, this scheme is introduced.

The politics

There are many shreds of evidence that shows the female ratio is better than the male. Our Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi gave a message on the event of International Day of Girl Child in the year 2014.

He pointed out the abolition of female foeticide and asked valuable advice from the Indian citizens on My Government in the portal, The efforts or attempts of our Prime Minister are appreciable. But that was not an easy task to establish their scheme all over India.

Many difficulties came in the path of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. The main factor that hinders is social abuses. On the other hand, orthodox tendencies take the female foeticide, Sati, Child marriage, domestic abuses are such causes that cannot be ignored.

The contribution of our government and the active role of our police to control the atrocities on women. But the people of the country, especially in rural areas, are not ready to change their thinking. The other reason that hinders the implementation of this scheme is the Dowry System.

In India, we talk about equality but the fact is that we prefer males to females. Girls are getting an education in town, cities, and also the rural areas. But this is much regretful that the orthodox beliefs and conservative thinking have not been erased from their mind.

Conclusion

These are the factors behind the failure of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. It failed due to the lack of seriousness of the government parties. The civil body didn’t support this scheme.

Thus, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is an urgent requirement of the time. With the help of this scheme, parents should have to deposit some money in the bank. Money for the betterment of a girl’s future. So that the disgusting, and distaining behavior of the people towards girls, can be changed.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is, in fact, an awareness for the people. It is to know the value of girls and have an equal rank of honor among males. There is no possibility to develop the nation without women empowerment because Women are The Future!
