How To Cure Acidity Permanently?

Acidity is a pretty frequent issue that affects people of all ages at some point in their lives. Those who experience frequent acidity issues are considered to have an “acid stomach.” Acidity is a common condition that features a burning pain, known as heartburn, in the lower chest area. Usually, it happens when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus.

Symptoms of Acidity / Acid Reflux

Heartburn Regurgitation

1. Heartburn

Heartburn or acid indigestion is a burning pain or discomfort that can move up from your stomach to the middle of your abdomen and chest. Sometimes, the pain moves to your throat as well. Despite its name, heartburn doesn’t affect your heart.

2. Regurgitation

Regurgitation is the sensation of acid backing up into your throat or mouth. As a result, it can produce a sour or bitter taste, and you may experience “wet burps.”

Dyspepsia

3. Dyspepsia

Dyspepsia is a general term for stomach discomfort. Symptoms of dyspepsia include burping, nausea after eating, stomach fullness or bloating, or upper abdominal pain and discomfort.

Besides, symptoms of acid reflux may be a sign that stomach acid has inflamed your esophagus. Stomach acid can damage the lining of your esophagus and cause bleeding. Over time, it can also change the cells of the esophagus and cause cancer (Barrett’s esophagus).

Causes of Acidity

One common cause of acid reflux disease is a stomach abnormality called a hiatal hernia. This occurs when the upper part of the stomach and LES move above the diaphragm, a muscle that separates your stomach from your chest. Normally, the diaphragm helps keep acid in our stomach. However, if you have a hiatal hernia, acid can move up into your esophagus and cause symptoms of acid reflux disease.

Some common risk factors for acid reflux disease are eating large meals or lying down right after a meal, being overweight or obese, snacking close to bedtime, etc. In addition to these, other factors are eating certain foods, such as citrus, tomato, chocolate, mint, garlic, onions, or spicy or fatty foods, smoking, etc

Treatment

To prevent heartburn, it’s best to avoid lying down for at least two hours after eating, avoiding fats, chocolate, and citrus foods. Moreover, antacid medications may ease symptoms immediately. Other medications such as omeprazole and ranitidine take longer to work, but may provide more effective relief.

See a doctor immediately if you:

1. Have chest pain along with sweating, shortness of breath, or pain in the arm or jaw

2. Experience heartburn symptoms that don’t respond to antacids

3. Make an appointment to see a doctor if you

4. Experience heartburn two or more times a week

5. Get reflux symptoms that interfere with sleep

6. Develop a new cough

7. Have difficulty swallowing, nausea, or vomiting

8. Don’t improve with self-treatment
